# Find your way around the editor

Use the canvas, slide navigation, properties and playback controls.

## The workspace [#the-workspace]

- **Left:** select, duplicate, delete and reorder slides.
- **Center:** the canvas, where you select and edit content directly.
- **Toolbar:** add content, switch tools, undo or redo, and present.
- **Right:** properties appropriate to the selected text, image, shape or slide.
- **Steps and footer:** change visual states, inspect save status and adjust zoom.

Select an element before changing its properties. Select the slide background to work on the slide rather than an element.

## Move around the canvas [#move-around-the-canvas]

Use zoom to work on details. Choose the hand tool to pan, or hold Space temporarily while working on the canvas. Release Space to return to the previous tool. Space inside a text field remains normal typing.

The presentation frame is **1920 × 1080 (16:9)**. Zoom changes your view, not the presentation dimensions. You may position content outside the frame for motion effects, but presentation and exports clip content outside the slide.

## Recover an edit [#recover-an-edit]

Undo and redo let you revisit edits. Check which slide and Step you are editing before changing content: a Step is a visual state of a slide, not another slide.

On mobile, the editor becomes a read-only preview. Use a desktop viewport for editing controls.
