Build a slide with Steps
Show progressive visual states without duplicating a slide.
Read as MarkdownWhat is a Step?
A slide starts at Base and can have up to 24 Steps: 25 visual states in total. Steps let a diagram grow, an object move, or details appear while staying on the same slide.
Create a sequence
- Design the Base state.
- Add a Step from the Steps controls.
- Select that Step and change the content, geometry or background.
- Add further Steps as needed and test the sequence in playback.
A new Step starts from the preceding visual state. Existing states keep their own appearance when you edit another state. New content appears in the state where it is added, not automatically in all existing Steps.
Move the same object between states
Copy an element from Base or an earlier Step and paste it into a later Step of the same slide to reuse its identity. That lets playback interpolate its geometry. If the object already exists in the destination state, this updates that occurrence rather than adding another.
Duplication, same-state paste, backward paste and cross-slide paste create independent identities. Editing the original does not edit an independent copy.
Navigate and export
Use Interactions to jump directly to Base or a particular Step. Configure interactions in each state where they are needed; they do not inherit automatically.
Deleting a Step preserves later visual states. PDF export produces a page for Base and every Step, including unchanged Steps. See export formats.
